4-Year-Old Remains In Critical Condition After Crash Kills Three Family Members

The 20-year-old son of a Lackawanna police officer has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, driving while intoxicated, and reckless driving after he ran a stop sign, causing an accident that has claimed three lives and injured six others. One 4-year-old is still fighting for her life in an intensive care unit in Buffalo, New York.

Drunk Driver Kills Three Family Members & Injuries Six Others

At around 6:30 a.m. the police were called to the scene of a horrific accident in Wyoming County, New York. Upon arrival, they found that a Kia Sedona minivan had been T-boned at an intersection by a pickup truck. Many of the passengers in the minivan were ejected from the vehicle in the collision.

All of the nine passengers in the seven seat minivan were members of the same family. A 47-year-old and her 32-year-old daughter were declared dead at the scene. The other seven passengers were rushed to the hospital to be treated for serious injuries. One of the 4-year-old's, the daughter of the deceased 32-year-old woman, died from severe head trauma at the hospital.

All of the other family members have been treated for serious injuries, including broken bones, lacerated internal organs, external lacerations, and traumatic brain injuries. A second 4-year-old is still in critical condition due to head trauma and is fighting for her life.

Police Discourage Victim Blaming

One things that has been noted is that many of the victims of the accident were not wearing seatbelts and that child approved seating was not found in the minivan. However, this doesn't change the fact that the drunk driver is ultimately responsible for the accident and the lives that were claimed. It's easy to say that the victims could have made better choices but if the underage driver hadn't used a fake ID to purchase alcohol and then get behind the while drunk, the accident would not have happened.

A Drunk Driving Lawsuit Can Help Pay For Medical Care

One thing is certain: the family is going to face extensive medical bills and many will likely require ongoing care. Auto insurance may not provide the coverage that they will require but a car accident lawsuit may be able to give them full compensation for past and anticipated future medical treatments.
