Union Backed Study Shows NYC Safter For Construction Workers Than Rest Of State

The New York Committee for Occupational Safety and Health recently conducted a study titled "Deadly Skyline" which showed that the number of construction fatalities in New York City has fallen, however, overall the number of fatalities in this dangerous industry in the state have risen.

Fatalities Decrease During Construction Boom

Typically, when the construction industry experiences a boom, the death toll will also rise. Some are attributing the decline to the action taken by NYCOSH which has been aggressively prosecuting contractors who fail to uphold the law, recommending harsh penalties.

In fact, in the past two years, several contractors have been charged with manslaughter due to a workers' death - charges that many believe thousands of contractors over the years should have faced but didn't.

Falls A Leading Cause Of Death

According to the study results, one of the leading causes of death is a fall. Contrary to popular opinion, even a fall from a standing position can be deadly in the right circumstances and each year, thousands suffer career ending injuries.

If you or a loved one were hurt on a construction site, contact one of the local law offices of Banville Law for a case review. You may be owed significant compensation.
