Brooklyn Family Speaks Out After Father Killed In Construction Accident

Another fatal accident has claimed the life of a construction worker in New York and his family is demanding an full investigation into the accident.

Debris Crushes Construction Worker At Brooklyn Site

The day before Thanksgiving, a 44-year-old man was working on a construction site in Brooklyn with his two sons and several other coworkers. As he went about his business, another worker was using a forklift to transport a metal wall panel. Although the exact cause is still not known, the metal wall became detached from the forklift and fell on the victim, crushing him.

His sons rushed to his side and working to quickly pull him out from until the heavy metal panel. They quickly realized that his injuries were severe and call for an ambulance. He survived the trip to the hospital, however, doctors were unable to save his life.

The Department of Buildings (DOB) has issued a stop work order and has indicated that they may issue "enforcement actions" depending on the outcome of their investigation.

The family of the deceased has demanded a full investigation and one of the sons stated his belief that work should not have commenced on that day to high winds.

Construction Accident Fatalities Are Common

Each year, hundreds of construction workers are killed in accidents that could have and should have been prevented. While the DOB and OSHA don't have the resources needed to ensure that every contractor and construction company is following proper safety protocol, these organizations are hoping that by levying large fines and even pursuing criminal charges will inspire owners and managers to take the necessary steps to keep employees safe.

Often, construction accident victims and their loved ones have the right to file a lawsuit against the party responsible. To learn more about whether you are eligible to file a construction accident lawsuit, contact Banville Law today.
